Professional Housebuilder and Property Developer magazine has awarded Easy Price Pro one of its highest accolades – Best Software Product of the Year (2009).
The prestigious national magazine, which has an average circulation of 21,000 copies a month, provides builders and developers with comprehensive coverage of the latest products, services, news, analysis of major events and initiatives affecting the construction industry, such as the
implications of Government legislation.
Easy Price Pro won the award because of the consistent quality of our estimating software for all trades and the work we have done in recent years to continually improve our programs so they can achieve more for the user and are even easier to operate.
·The award was due to be presented to EPP Managing Director Paul Betts on 25th January and we hope to bring you further coverage and a photograph in the next newsletter.
As one of Britain’s biggest employers, the construction industry will suffer a significant proportion of the financial losses caused by the big freeze.
It’s been calculated that around £230 million pounds was lost each day to private firms during the bad weather in December and January.
The freeze couldn’t have happened at a worse time, just as signs of economic recovery had brightened the outlook. Then came the snow and builders in all parts of Britain were affected, with work ceasing for two or even three weeks until mid to late January.
It wasn’t just site-work that stopped, a concrete firm in Wales couldn’t move blocks from their premises for several weeks owing to the road conditions.
However, it wasn’t all bad news. Plumbers were in big demand as boilers in thousands of homes gave up the ghost and builders’ merchants had record sales of salt and sand.
Some builders used the enforced time off to do quotes and paperwork with their estimating software – Easy Price Pro received dozens of extra calls from builders requiring Upgrades and Activations.
Others turned their attention to community matters. Builders laid off by the weather helped deliver meals on wheels in West Yorkshire and rescued a flock of swans with the RSPCA in Merseyside. Well done to those who lent a hand in both cases!
There’s a call going out to builders this month not to forget to renew their annual Easy Price Pro SMU (support, maintenance and upgrades) this year as these entitle customers to the latest versions of our best-selling software, New Houses & Extensions Plus TM Version 5 has just been launched and Renovations & Alterations TM Version 5, which will be out this month.
Customers who keep their annual SMU entitlements up to date and still have time left on their SMU will receive the new software free of charge.
Developers have spent two years working on NHE PlusTMVersion 5 and R & A TM Version 5 and they’ve taken Easy Price Pro into another dimension, with the use of 3D diagrams. These provide another way to input information for your estimate and allow you see what each line of the job is for, along with giving the user easy access to more options for each section of the job, but also allowing the user to see what is happening. As the saying goes, ‘a picture paints a thousand words’, and we believe it really does in this case.
And don’t forget, keeping your SMU up to date also entitles you to free technical assistance throughout the year which provides help and information with new developments and products, as well as entitling you to the latest versions. Absolutely essential!
It’s also worth noting that if you upgrade your computer for whatever reason and if you upgrade to the new Windows 7, Microsoft Office or use one of the new 64 bit computers, there is a chance your old Easy Price Pro Program may not work with them, so to keep ahead, make sure you have the latest versions.
Five or more workers? Here’s a Health and Safety reminder
The Government’s Health and Safety Executive say that any builder with more than five employees must have a written Health and Safety policy. And they’ve pledged that their Inspectors will visit even the smaller building firms more frequently in the future, to make sure they’re enforcing health and safety law.
Even those firms with less than five workers have a legal responsibility to protect the health and safety of their staff, customers and members of the public.
Recent advances in software can provide a solution. For example, you can make sure you comply with Health and Safety legislation and avoid prosecution and large fines by drawing up your own H&S paperwork, for every job using Easy Price Pro’s Health & Safety PlusTM
The program is quick, easy to use and a real time-saver. It looks at your existing quote created with Easy Price Pro estimating software and extracts nearly all the information it needs to draw up a health and safety plan for that job.
Health and safety legislation is not just meaningless red tape. Unfortunately, construction is still one of the most dangerous industries in Britain. Over the last 25 years 2,800 people have died through building work and many more have been injured. That’s an average of two deaths a week.
